Dear 2nd grade parents,
We are off to an exciting school year! The students are in school on time, in uniform, and ready to learn. Thank you for your work in their success.
Our literacy block is in the morning. We are working on the rituals and routines so the students become a reading and writing community.
The afternoon consists of math, community building, and social studies. Science will be integrated into our schedule and we will alternate between social studies and science.
Our first social studies project for “Our Community” is due Friday, September 5, 2008. Poster board will be coming home. We are looking for pictures, drawings, etc. that depict each students’ culture and heritage. We will have the students present their projects on Friday afternoon. Please join us if you are able to!
Homework will go home daily in their homework folders. Please check their folders daily for important notices. Students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes per night. We would like them to respond to what they read, either orally or in writing. They have a reading log in their folders that is the same one we use in class. There are 3 columns on their log where they just put a check mark whether they read with someone, to someone, or independently. The AR (Accelerated Reading) columns are for use at school.
Any work not finished in class will be in their folder. Please assist the students in completing their homework and becoming responsible learners.
If you were unable to make it to Back-to-School night please feel free to come in and meet us. We look forward to being a successful team in your child’s education!
