Al Oakland we are always implementing new approaches to assure students get the best possible education.

Math
  • iReady is our Math Curriculum.
    • Provides just-in-time instruction that is responsive to individual student needs
    • Engages students with relevant challenges and provides pathways to deeper understanding
    • Enables students to advance quickly once they master a skill, building their confidence and maximizing their engagement
    • Presents real-world problems that help students understand the “why” behind the “how”
    • Builds internal motivation while encouraging productive struggle with Learning Games
    • i-Ready Math Family Support Center
  • Small Group Instruction: Our teachers provide small group instruction to reinforce or re-teach specific skills and concepts.
  • Intervention: Oakland offers frequent math intervention in small groups to support students who would benefit from it.
Literacy
  • Benchmark:  is a comprehensive, research-proven program that empowers teachers with tools for vertically aligned K-6 reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language instruction. Builds foundational skills such as phonics, word study, and fluency.
  • Orton- Gillingham (OG): is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.  It is most properly understood and practiced as an approach, not a method, program, or system. In the hands of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility.
  • Esperanza: The Esperanza program is a Spanish multisensory structured language approach for reading, writing, and spelling.
  • Small Group Instruction: Our teachers provide small group instruction to reinforce or re-teach specific skills and concepts.
  • Accelerated Readers Curriculum: Oakland partnership with Carmel Hill to provide support to schools in the form of school and classroom libraries, computers and technology as needed, and professional development. Our goal is to establish a self-maintaining independent reading practice which will continue without our support, allowing us to move our resources to other schools and children.
  • Intervention: Oakland offers frequent literacy intervention in small groups to support students who would benefit from it.
Social Studies

We use Inquiry Journeys as our Social Studies Curriculum. Inquiry Journeys moves beyond the textbook, delivering a digital and customizable elementary social studies curriculum that engages students and supports teachers.

Science

We use Amplify Science Curriculum. Amplify is a K–8 science curriculum that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools to empower students to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.

ELD

We use EL Achieve as our ELD curriculum. During Systematic ELD instruction, English learners study how English works. This is student-centered instruction that supports content-area success by strengthening language abilities and teaching the language that native-English speakers already bring to their schooling. It follows a scope and sequence of language skills, with a focus on the high-leverage, portable vocabulary, and sentence structures of the proficiency level.

Conscious Discipline

At Oakland Elementary, we incorporate Conscious Discipline into everything we do. Conscious Discipline is an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach. It provides behavior management strategies, social-emotional learning and classroom structures. Learn more.

STEM and Career

Oakland partners with organizations in and out of Denver Public schools to offer STEM and Career-Focused Education for students. We provide these learning opportunities for students during and after school.
