Welcome from the Principal

Dear New Families,

On behalf of the entire Oakland Elementary School community, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you and your family! We are thrilled to have you join us for the upcoming 2024-25 school year and embark on this exciting journey together. 

I have the privilege of serving as a principal of this wonderful school for the last three years and working a total of 10 years with the community in different capacities. I am very proud of our students and cannot wait for the next school year. They have grown tremendously in both academics and in their social emotional development, and I am excited to watch your students flourish here. 

At Oakland, we are committed to the success of all students. Our school programming includes a focus on the whole child – including academic as well as social-emotional needs. Our goal is that all our unique learners are able to actualize their potential and be ready for the next steps in their education. We believe that strong partnerships between school, family, and community are essential for student success. We encourage you to get involved in our school community through volunteering, attending events, and participating in parent-teacher associations.

As we begin to plan for the 2024-25 school year, I would like to share some upcoming changes:

• Please take a look at our school calendar for the next school year. Days highlighted in yellow are Oakland Professional days – No classes for students- Please take note of these days to make the necessary arrangements for your students.  
• Our school day will be from 7:35 am – 2:50 pm  from Monday to Friday. 
• Discovery Link will be available again next year for families who need additional after-school support.  We will also have different Enrichment programs throughout the school year. More information will be shared with all families soon.
• Students should arrive no earlier than 7:35 am each day.  All students will have the opportunity to eat breakfast as part of DPS’s Breakfast in the Classroom program.  Our tardy bell will move up to  7:45 am.  If your student arrives after 7:45 am, they will need a tardy slip from the front office. Please bring your student in time to start instruction (7:45am)
• School Uniform: Uniforms are mandatory at Oakland. The uniforms will be sold in the school office. Students who do not arrive at school in uniform will be sent to the office to change. More information will be coming to parents very soon.
• Orientation for New Families: Please join us on our Orientation day for New members of our Oakland Community.
