My name is Heather Cyrus. I am the current ESL interventionist and I work with K-4 students in small groups in literacy. I also work with 3rd and 4th graders in a small group for beginning and intermediate English Language Development. I love that I get to work with so many great students at Oakland and how hard the teachers and staff work to create our wonderful Oakland village!
I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s of science degree in Early Childhood Education, with a focus on Special Education and Spanish. I have my endorsement in bilingual Spanish education and culturally and linguistically diverse education. I have taught in early childhood classrooms as both the general education teacher and as the special education teacher. I’ve taught 2nd and 3rd grade at the elementary level and have worked as a special education teacher at the elementary level with students with social and emotional disabilities as well as with students with autism.
I grew up in Casper, Wyoming and then moved to Chicago, IL. We eventually moved out of Chicago to Rockford IL. I moved to Colorado in 2018 because I missed the mountains of my youth! Things I love are: traveling to new places, learning about history, all things Marvel comics and Harry Potter, playing with my dogs, the Chicago Cubs, and spending time with my friends!
