Translations

We strive to ensure all families have equal access to all information and opportunities. Please read below about translations services DPS offers.

Phone translations

Please find below the instructions to access phone interpretation This service is available at any time with no pre scheduling necessary for most languages. This is best recommended for short, 3-way calls. You don’t need to submit a request online for phone interpretation. If you need in person or Video Remote Interpretation services instead, please visit our website http://thecommons.dpsk12.org/Page/719 to submit an online request.

The process for using phone interpretation is as follows:

  1. Call the agency at +1 (888) 338-7394
  2. You will be prompted to input your school’s account code, followed by its reference code, which are: Account #16047.
  3. For three way calls, dial 1 and provide the family’s number (the operator will connect you with both parties).  Dial 2 to continue without a 3rd-party call. 
  4. Dial 1 for Spanish, Dial 2 for Russian, Dial 3 for Vietnamese, Dial 4 for Somali, or Dial 9 for all other languages.
  5. Provide the school’s location Code. #150 (for Oakland Elementary School only)
  6. Follow any additional prompts
  7. You will be connected immediately to an interpreter.

In-person Interpretations

Interpretations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interpretation (Spoken) can be in person, Video Remote (VRI) or over the phone, and are available for public school-related events, parent meetings, student conferences, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other events. Interpretation services (in person, VRI or by phone) are offered for free to parents and families, and must be requested by a DPS employee. Please reach out to Oakland Office Support for interpretations requests.

Translating Online Resources

If you need to translate any document into another language using Google Docs, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Document:
    Open the Google Doc you want to translate.
  2. Access the Translation Tool:
    Click on “Tools” in the top menu, then select “Translate document…” from the dropdown.
  3. Choose a New Title:
    In the pop-up window, enter a new title for the translated document.
  4. Select the Language:
    From the dropdown menu, choose the language you want to translate the document into.
  5. Translate:
    Click “Translate” to create a new document with the translated text.

The original document will remain unchanged, and a new Google Doc with the translated content will open in a new tab.
